WHICH WAY TO GO? | Psalm 37: 5
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
Tuesday Jan 11, 2022
When you come to the fork in the road, take it. That's a yogi-ism, it was spoken by famed New York Yankee catcher, Yogi Berra. That's what Yogi told teammate Joe Gratia about getting to his house. When you come to the fork in the road, take it... You know, there's some pretty good advice in that old yogi-ism is that when you come to a fork in the road of life when you come to that place where you have to choose to go one way or the other, you can't just wait there, you can't turn back, you have to choose a way to take... And you know sometimes that your whole future depends on the way that you take, and you want God's help.

GOD COMPLETES HIS WORK IN YOU | Philippians 1:6
Saturday Jan 08, 2022
Saturday Jan 08, 2022
I have a Bible verse that I wanna share with you today for very personal reasons, as this verse changed my life, it is a verse that got me going as a Christian, and it's a verse that keeps me going today.
I discovered this verse when I was 18 years old, my whole life ahead of me, but I was discouraged about the Christian life. I was trying harder, it didn't feel like I was getting anywhere, and I really wasn't sure how long I could hang on... I don't know if you could identify with me and any of that, but the Christian life was not a joy for me. And that's when I found Philippians 1:6...

GOD’S LOVE ENDURES FOREVER | Psalm 136
Thursday Jan 06, 2022
Thursday Jan 06, 2022
I've got good news for you.
You did nothing to make God love you, and you can't do anything to make him stop. That's the clear message of a Psalm I'm looking at today and that I wanna pass on to you. This is a psalm that in Jesus day was a favorite, one that they often sang. We don't talk about this so much today, and I think that's because it is so repetitive that is... It just keeps saying the same thing over and over again. It keeps on saying, The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever. No matter what you've done, no matter what you have gotten yourself into, the steadfast love of the Lord for you endures forever.

ENCOURAGEMENT FOR A NEW YEAR | Philippians 2:1
Tuesday Jan 04, 2022
Tuesday Jan 04, 2022
Happy New Year! I hope your new year is off to a good start, and I wanna give you some encouragement for the new year, and I'm praying that what I have to say in the next few moments, that it will be a big boost to you as you begin the year, but it's not really what I have to say, it's what God's word has to say that, well, it really encourages me today, and I pray that it will encourage you too. I'm looking at a passage of scripture that is often read during added and Christmas, about the Son of God humbling himself and becoming one with us, and how we too should humble ourselves and give of ourselves, but I wanna begin reading a little bit earlier in this text, and we usually begin.

TAKING TIME IN THE NEW YEAR | Matthew 14:22-23
Friday Dec 31, 2021
Friday Dec 31, 2021
How about let's take a break today, I should take a little breather, a pause from the news, from the over-stimulation, that feeling of having too much to do, and let's reboot. Let's just turn everything off for a bit, let's put on hold what needs to be done so that we can spend time with our heavenly father.

GOD’S COMPOST PIT OF REDEMPTION | Romans 8:28–29
Thursday Dec 30, 2021
Thursday Dec 30, 2021
Today, on the verge of this new year, I'm looking at a Bible text that every time I read it, I think about my mom's compost pit because it's a verse that tells us that God has His compost... God's compost of redemption. I'm looking at Romans Chapter 8:28, where he says that we know that God works all things for good for those who love him, who are called according to His purpose. I like that as it says, We know that God works all things. Not some things, not most things, but we know that God works all things together for good.

BOLD CONFIDENCE FOR A NEW YEAR | Psalm 23:6
Tuesday Dec 28, 2021
Tuesday Dec 28, 2021
Wow. Another year is gone.
We are about ready to say goodbye to 2021, and I wonder, how are you thinking about the new year? How does the future look for you?
If you've listened to the Selah podcasts for any length of time, you might have noticed that I often talk about David and about David's Psalms. The Bible actually tells us more about David than it tells us about any other person in scripture. Scripture tells us that David was a man after God's own heart. It tells us that David fulfills the purpose of God in his generation. There's a lot that we can learn from David from as many ups and downs through his good times and through his failures. And so today, as we think about a new year coming, I wanna pull up a chair and sit for a few moments alongside David and ask David, how he has learned to look at life and how he looks at the future.

SOMETHING TO PONDER THIS CHRISTMAS DAY | Luke 2:19
Saturday Dec 25, 2021
Saturday Dec 25, 2021
I hope you're having a joyful, blessed day. Celebrating the good news that is Christmas.
Did you ever wonder what Mary did on Christmas Day? Well, the Gospel of Luke leaves unsaid that she was changing diapers nursing the baby, but the Gospel of Luke does say that Mary treasured all the words of the shepherds about the angels and their glad tidings, that Mary treasured and pondered them in her heart. And I think that would be a good thing for us to do in the midst of a lot of activity. To take a few moments to ponder and to treasure, the glad tidings of great joy proclaim to the shepherds by the angels. Now, it seems to me that the more familiar I am with a Bible story like Christmas, but the more difficult it can be for me to see it with fresh... So let's see if we can't climb back over 2000 years to see the Shepherds with new eyes.

A FAVORITE CHRISTMAS STORY: The Birds
Thursday Dec 23, 2021
Thursday Dec 23, 2021
It's almost Christmas. I just love Christmas. From the time I was a little boy, I have loved Christmas. The trajectory of my whole year heads towards Christmas, and I noticed around us that a lot of people have put up Christmas lights and decorations early this year as it seems after an especially painful, difficult 2021, that we are more than ready to rejoice and celebrate Christmas

TIS THE SEASON FOR RECEIVING | 2 Corinthians 9:15
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
We are hearing a lot these days about vaccines, about variants, and about building up immunity against Covid, and it's all got me to wondering if it's possible, if it's possible that you and I might be building up an immunity to Christmas... An immunity to the sheer wonder, the joy, the amazement that is Christmas. What I mean is, do you think it's possible that as we celebrate Christmas each year, then we get used to Christmas, that we build up a resistance to all that Christmas means for us. I've often said that the Christmas sermon is the hardest sermon of the year to preach, I mean, we know the story, we know it well, it's almost a familiarity that breeds immunity to the real wonder and joy that is Christmas. Today, I wanna look at a scripture text that takes us to the very heart of Christmas, what Christmas is all about.
