HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Thursday Nov 25, 2021
Thursday Nov 25, 2021
Happy Thanksgiving! A blessed Thanksgiving to you. One of the things that I'm especially thankful for today is you. Thank you for listening to the Selah podcast. I always look forward to getting to share these few moments with you.
I think it's significant that the word thank, which we're doing today, the word thank... It comes from the same root word as the word think. And people who study these things, tell us that as far back as they can go into the early Indo-European languages, they see that our words thank and think they are connected.
And so, the wisdom of the ages are telling us that there was something about giving thanks that helps us think, to think more clearly about life, about the world, about God, and when we really stop and think about things, we can't help but give thanks to God. Good thinking and good thanking go together...

TELLING GOD ‘THANK YOU’ | Psalm 116
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Tuesday Nov 23, 2021
Now, I've heard that feeling thankful can present a real problem to an atheist or an agnostic, they don't know who or what to thank. Well, a Christian never has that problem, we know who to thank for our many blessings, we thank our Father in Heaven, but sometimes we might wonder how best to thank our Father for all that he does for us. Well today, I'm looking at a psalm where the psalmist is wondering how, how to thank God...

GOD’S DELIGHT IN HIS CHILDREN | Zephaniah 3:14-17

Saturday Nov 20, 2021
I'm hoping that by the time I'm through, that you're gonna be seen dancing, maybe even calling up a friend and celebrating the good news, that's because we're gonna take the next few moments to look at a couple of verses in the Old Testament that sound... well, they sound like they're coming from the New Testament as they are so filled with hope and good news, as they look to the coming of Jesus.

REFRESH AND REFUEL | Matthew 14:22–23
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
How about let's take a break today, I should take a little breather, a pause from the news, from the over-stimulation, that feeling of having too much to do, and let's reboot. Let's just turn everything off for a bit, let's put on hold what needs to be done so that we can spend time with our heavenly father. It is Jesus who was leading us in this is. As in Matthew chapter 14, Jesus is experiencing what... I think I can say, that Jesus is experiencing overload. He has just received horrible news, and then on top of that is the constant demand of people on his time and energies.

FORGIVEN | Psalm 130: 3- 4
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Tuesday Nov 16, 2021
Do you ever struggle with whether or not God really forgives you? Perhaps you know in your head that God forgives you. Your theology tells you that God forgives you, but it just hasn't sunk in yet. The brain has not notified your heart, and so you live with this sense of guilt, of shame, of disappointment by God. Carl Minnegar, the famous psychiatrist, founder of the Minnegar Clinic, said that if he could convince patients in psychiatric hospitals that their sins were forgiven, he said that 75% of the patients could walk out the door the next day. So you see, forgiveness is huge. And I wanna talk with you for the next few moments about forgiveness and knowing that you are free, fully forgiven by God.

Growing in God’s Grace | 1 Corinthians 15:9
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
You must be a person hungry for God. I mean, I don't think he would be listening to the Selah podcast, but that you have a real hunger and thirst for God, you love God, and are probably growing in your understanding of God's love for you. And yet as you were growing in your understanding of how wonderful God is, you are growing in your understanding of... Well, of how you fall short, growing in your understanding of where God is noting you to grow growing and your understanding of sin in your life... Am I right? I mean, it might seem that the more you were growing in your faith, the more you were sensing how far you have to go... What's going on here?
I would like to explore this for a few moments by looking at the life of the Apostle Paul and to look at Paul's growth, his progress in faith and how sometimes it might look like in going forward, Paul is going backward.

FOCUSED LIVING | Philippians 4:8
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
Thursday Nov 11, 2021
Philosopher Theologian Dallas Willard said that the ultimate freedom we have as human beings is the power to select what we allow our minds to dwell on. The important word here is, dwell. What do we allow our minds to dwell on these days, what do we allow our minds to focus on to meditate on?
Now, I want to share with you a scripture verse that's helping me in these difficult crazy days. It's from The Little Book of Philippians...

I CAN’T, BUT CHRIST CAN | Philippians 4:13
Tuesday Nov 09, 2021
Tuesday Nov 09, 2021
The children's book, The Little Engine That Could was a very popular bedtime story at our home. It's a story about The Little Engine needing to get over the mountain with a lot of toys for the boys and girls. And, as a little injured begins to gather steam to get over the high mountain, it begins to say, I think I can. I think I can, I think I can. I think I can, I think again, saying it each time a little faster than before and up over the mountain, the little engine goes... I think I can, I think I can. I think, again, I think again... Well, I love the story, but... Well, it's not entirely biblical. There are two important differences between the Little Engine story and the Bible.

The Father’s Love for His Children |1 John 3:1–2
Saturday Nov 06, 2021
Saturday Nov 06, 2021
She loves me, she loves me not. Did you ever play that game? Do you ever play that game with God? I know a lot of people who do, I mean they do something wrong and they're just sure that God loves me not... Or something bad happens to them, and they think, well, God must not love me. Let's see if today we can't get all this settled once and for all, and put our minds at rest about God's love for you and me...

The Father’s Compassionate Love
Thursday Nov 04, 2021
Thursday Nov 04, 2021
Hey, things are really kind of crazy right now, aren't they? And at a time when it feels like so many things are up for grabs, I want to look today at the one constant in this topsy turvy world, the one thing that you and I that we can stake our lives on, and that is the character of our heavily, father. That God is unchanging. That God is unwavering. That you can count on God always being there for you. We see this beautiful reality about God in Psalm 103, which is a Psalm of David.
