LIVING BOLDLY IN GOD‘S LOVE | John 4:16-18
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
Thursday Sep 16, 2021
Hey, I have a question for you. What are your thoughts about one day standing before God? Is it a thought that frightens you or does it thrill you, excite you to think about seeing your savior?
Now, people who don't believe in God, people who are not believers, are excused from this question because I know they don't give any thought to when they stand before God. We will let them take up this question with God later. But all of you who do love God, who are followers of Jesus, I have the most wonderful news for you about one day standing before God...

WHEN GOD SEEMS FAR AWAY | Psalm 63:1-3
Tuesday Sep 14, 2021
Tuesday Sep 14, 2021
I can remember the day when my mother took a Bible in hand and she opened it up and she showed me right there in the middle of the Bible, you can find the book of Psalms. She said, you know, it's right there in the middle is like God wanted the Psalms, to be easy for us to find. And I've been turning to the Psalms for the rest of my life. I turn to the Psalms when I'm happy and want to give things, I turn to the Psalms when I've sinned as they help me pour out my heart in confession. I turned to the Psalms when I'm confused, feeling overwhelmed, and I don't know what to do, I turn to the Psalms.
Today, I'm in the Book of Psalms again, praying over a Psalm of David written when David is feeling far away from God, written at a time David is feeling overwhelmed by the problems he's facing. And so, David does what David knows to do. David cries out to God...

GOD WILL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU | Psalm 136
Saturday Sep 11, 2021
Saturday Sep 11, 2021
Hey. How about some good news? Would you like some?
Well, I've got good news for you. You did nothing to make God love you, and you can't do anything to make him stop. That's the clear message of a Psalm I'm looking at today and that I wanna pass on to you. This is a psalm that in Jesus' day was a favorite, one that they often sang. We don't talk about this so much today, and I think that's because it is so repetitive that is... It just keeps saying the same thing over and over again. It keeps on saying, The steadfast love of the Lord endures forever.
No matter what you've done, no matter what you have gotten yourself into, the steadfast love of the Lord for you endures forever.
Today, I'm looking at Psalm 136, and I'm going to read just the first few verses, and I think that'll give you a feel of what the psalm is about...

GOD HOLDS YOU | Psalm 37:23-24
Thursday Sep 09, 2021
Thursday Sep 09, 2021
Imagine sitting with a close friend for an hour or so and looking back at your life, talking about some of the highest, the lows, some good days, some perhaps not so good, but looking back on your life, I just bet that you would have some lessons learned, some real distilled wisdom. I count it one of my greatest privileges and pleasures in ministry to have served some time as a hospice chaplain, where I spent literally hours with people young and old looking back at life, telling their stories, lessons learned.

PURSUED BY GOODNESS AND MERCY | Psalm 23:6.
Tuesday Sep 07, 2021
Tuesday Sep 07, 2021
As you look at the news today, as you browse the internet, what's stirring in you? How are you thinking about life in the age of COVID-19? How are you thinking about your future in several? In single conversations we have been looking at life with David, there's so much that we can learn from David. As scripture tells us that he was a man after God's own heart scripture tells us that David fulfilled the purpose of God in his generation.
And so today, I wanna pull up a chair and sit for a few moments alongside David, and ask him how he looks at life, how he looks at the future and I'm sitting with David in that much-beloved 23rd Psalm...

FULFILLING GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOU
Saturday Sep 04, 2021
Saturday Sep 04, 2021
There is something about being human that we want to know the purpose. We want to know what something is for, and as a pastor and chaplain, I have talked with many people over the years who were wanting to know their purpose, they were wanting to know what they were here for.
Well, as I look at the Psalms, I see that David was a man keenly focus on purpose and on his reason for being here. And I'm thinking that you too also might be wanting to know about your purpose and what you're here for. And I find that David has a lot to say about life's purpose, which is helpful in the ups and downs of our lives.

GROWING DEEP INTO GOD’S LOVE
Thursday Sep 02, 2021
Thursday Sep 02, 2021
You must be a person hungry for God. I mean, I don't think he would be listening to the Selah podcast, but that you have a real hunger and thirst for God, you love God, and are probably growing in your understanding of God's love for you. And yet as you were growing in your understanding of how wonderful God is, you are growing in your understanding of... Well, of how you fall short, growing in your understanding of where God is noting you to grow growing and your understanding of sin in your life... Am I right? I mean, it might seem that the more you were growing in your faith, the more you were sensing how far you have to go... What's going on here?
I would like to explore this for a few moments by looking at the life of the Apostle Paul and to look at Paul's growth, his progress in faith and how sometimes it might look like in going forward, Paul is going backward. As Paul seems to become more and more aware of sin in his life.

NO CONDEMNATION | Romans 8:1
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
Tuesday Aug 31, 2021
For a prank, one day English playwright, Noel Coward sent an identical anonymous letter to 10 well-known men in London, and his note says simply, we know what you have done, if you don't wanna be exposed, leave town. Well, it's reported that soon all 10 men, they got out of town. Not so nice a prank, but I think it does prove a point, and that is the pervasive power of guilt in the lives of many people. Or as Hemmingway told a story about guilt as there was a father and son who were alienated, I mean, the Son had done and something that really hurt his dad and feeling the shame, the boy runs away, and The Father searches all over Spain for his son and he can't find him, and finally, in desperation, the father places an ad in Madrid's daily newspaper and the ad reads Paco, meet me at Hotel Montana noon, Tuesday, all is forgiven, Papa. Hemingway says that there was a whole squadron of Madrid police that had to be called out to keep the peace as some 800 young men named Paco show up wanting forgiveness. Most of us, even as Christians, who do believe God's good news, we know what it is sometimes a struggle with the guilt to feel that we are forgiven.
I wanna share a verse with you that really helps me a lot in all of this, and it's Romans 8:1...

DECISIONS! DECISIONS! GOD WANT’S TO HELP | Proverbs 3:5-6
Saturday Aug 28, 2021
Saturday Aug 28, 2021
Oh, decisions, decisions. Life seems filled with decisions, doesn't it? Should I quit this job? Where should we live? Should we send the kids back to school? Should we downscale? Where does God want me to serve Him?
Well, one might wish for the wisdom of Solomon... And, it is Solomon's wisdom, which we're going to draw on today. The wisdom of Solomon that fills a Book of Proverbs. As we want to see what Solomon would advise us about making decisions.

CHRIST IS YOUR LIFE | Colossians 3
Thursday Aug 26, 2021
Thursday Aug 26, 2021
A few years ago, my wife and I spent New Year's in Rosemary Beach, Florida with our kids and grandkids, where we discovered the Sugar Shack. That has to be the largest candy store in the world. I mean, I've never seen so much candy aisles and aisles of sugar. You cannot imagine how much candy there is, and you should have seen the eyes of my grandkids and Grandpa. And I tell you that because I often feel like a little boy in a candy store when I open up God's word is there is so much here. And that means for me that the Christian life is becoming new almost every day. There was so much more than I imagined. And today, I wanna share with you a brief passage from the Word of God that is so rich and wonderful that I just keep coming back to these verses again and again...
