Power for Living
Saturday Jul 31, 2021
Saturday Jul 31, 2021
Could you use some power, power for getting through the day, power for dealing with the pressure you're under, power for being a follower of Jesus? Well, I don't have any power for you, but I'll go one better, I will show you the power that you already have, a power that you might never have realized. We find this power in a prayer of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians Chapter 1, beginning at verse 17, I'm not just going to read this, I'm going to pray this for you, and for me...

Pressing On
Thursday Jul 29, 2021
Thursday Jul 29, 2021
What would you say that you are in your Christian life? Would you say that you've arrived... What would you say that you are right where you have wanted to be? Or would you say, no, I've not arrived? I know that there is still more... So much more of Jesus to know?
Well, I wanna talk for a few moments about the joy, the joy of not having arrived, the joy of knowing there are still so much more of Jesus and the life and Jesus to know, the wonder of going after the more... It's what the old Romans called excelsior ever hirer. That there's more than having made a decision, more than having joined a church... Let's look at the Apostle Paul in Philippians Chapter 3, as we see Paul wanting for the more...

PRACTICING GOD’S PRESENCE | Psalm 16:8
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Is there a time in your life when God's presence has been especially real to you? A time when you could just feel God right there with you? That's a precious time when God's presence is more than just an assumption in our heads, but an awareness in our hearts.
There came a time in my walk with God when I longed to know I had to know God with me, in the way I'd been taught to sing as a boy about how God walks with me and he talks with me and he tells me I am his own. I needed that to be more than just a song I needed to know that it was real for my life. It was through a Bible verse that David taught me something about the daily practice of the presence of God who was always present to us and I wonder if David learned to practice God's presence when he was alone tending sheep or alone in some wilderness cave.

SEEING GOD SMILE | Ephesians 4:12
Saturday Jul 24, 2021
Saturday Jul 24, 2021
How are you picturing God today? I mean in your mind's eye, are you seeing God as smiling at you? Is God, is he frowning? That is, does God look disappointed in you. Does God look like he's ticked off? Well, the reason why I'm asking is because how you and I picture God is just about the most important thing about us. Because how we picture God affects how we look at life, how we look at ourselves, how we look at others. There is a soul secret that we tend to move in the direction of the way we picture God, and so I wanna see if we can't use some scripture today to see if we can't bring into focus the way we picture God.

CASTING YOUR CARE ONTO GOD | Psalm 55
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
I didn't know what to talk about with you today. I was feeling scattered, bothered, weighed down, I just couldn't get it together. And then I thought about what I was feeling, and I remembered a time in the life of David when he was feeling something like that, and it helped me to remember what David did when he was burdened, and that took me to a Psalm of David... Psalm 55. And I will admit straight up that I wasn't facing anything like what David is facing in Psalm 55, but you know, it helped me to see how David deals with burdens. And I think it can help you too, when you're burdened, bothered, just can't get it together.

When Life Gets You Down | Psalm 40
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
The Psalms have helped me so much through the years. And that's why I've come today to my old friend, the Book of Psalms. I don't have one particular psalm to share with you today so much as I have a life lesson learned from the book of Psalms, and that lesson comes with learning the three major types of Psalms there are. And learning how these three types speak to our different life situations. Now, there are different names that Bible students give to these three types of psalms, but I like the names that Walter Brookerman, an Old Testament scholar gives them. He calls them Psalms of orientation, Psalms of disorientation, and Psalms of new orientation. And knowing these three types of Psalms can help us in reading the Psalms and help us in reading our own lives, so let's look at these three types...

PREPARED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK | Ephesians 2:8–10
Saturday Jul 17, 2021
Saturday Jul 17, 2021
My son's family has a wonderful dog that's an Australian Shepherd. Now, I don't know if you've ever had any experience with an Australian Shepherd, but just let me tell you this, it needs a job to do. It needs to work. It's active. And you know that's not just something that we would say of Australian Shepherds, it's true of we humans too, that we need a job, we need to be doing something that counts. That makes a difference. Well, even if we're retired, we want to be doing something in this world for God, and his kingdom. We want to do good works. I'm going to share with you a couple of verses that really encouraged me is, as I think about serving God, about trying to make a difference in our world.

Time Out to Be with Father | Matthew 14:22-23
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
How about let's take a break today, I should take a little breather, a pause from the news, from the over-stimulation, that feeling of having too much to do, and let's reboot. Let's just turn everything off for a bit, let's put on hold what needs to be done so that we can spend time with our heavenly father. It is Jesus who was leading us in this is.
As in Matthew chapter 14, Jesus is experiencing what, I think I can say this, that Jesus is experiencing overload...

LORD I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU BUT I TRUST YOU | Psalm 131
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
I have a growing I don't understand file. Things that I've learned to, well, to leave with God as I've come to realize that God is working on a much higher level than I am and there are questions that I would actually need the mind of God to understand the answer.
I learned about having an I don't understand file from the psalmist, David, in Psalm 131, it has been said of the Psalm that it is one of the shortest psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn and it is a short Psalm, it is a mere 33 words in the original Hebrew, but it is so big in its impact.
It is a psalm about quieting ourselves, about coming to rest, about leaving with God those things that don't go our way, about leaving with God when his plans, well, they don't mesh with my plans.

GOD’S FOREVER LOVE | Psalm 136
Saturday Jul 10, 2021
Saturday Jul 10, 2021
No matter what you've done, no matter what you have gotten yourself into, the steadfast love of the Lord for you endures forever.
Today, I'm looking at Psalm 136, and I'm going to read the first few verses, and I think that'll give you a feel of what the psalm is about. Beginning in verse one. Oh, give thanks. You can feel the intensity, Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good for His steadfast love endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods, for His steadfast love endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the lord of lords, for His steadfast love endures forever. Who alone does great wonders for His steadfast love endures forever. How... You probably know what the next line is going to be, don't you? For His steadfast love endures, to reiterate, and it goes on like that for 26 verses, repeating, again and again, his steadfast love endures forever.
